The story
The Margaret Nicol was a Scottish-built schooner carrying coal from Newcastle to Melbourne under Captain Williamson. James Hay had owned her since June 1858.
She was damaged in a gale, abandoned and sank in the lee of Gabo Island. The crew were rescued by the steamer Wonga Wonga after two days on the island.
