Assistant Lightkeepers Cottage
A genuine heritage stay in the historic stone quarters of Gabo Island, operated and managed by Parks Victoria.
Heritage Island Living
Unlike fictional resort concepts, the Assistant Lightkeepers Cottage is the only real, authorized public accommodation operating on Gabo Island. Built alongside the historic 1862 pink granite lighthouse tower, this substantial stone residence originally housed assistant lightkeepers, their spouses, and children during the era of manual lighthouse operation.
Gabo Lighthouse Station
GEN-PANO-011The station on the headland. Paths, cottages and the granite lighthouse against a long run of ocean.
The cottage retains its historic colonial character while offering comfortable, self-contained living with sweeping views across the Tasman Sea, the granite headland, and the open sea.

Booking Process & What to Know
Direct Parks Victoria Booking:
Bookings must be arranged directly through Parks Victoria or their regional customer service centre. Due to the extreme weather variability of the Tasman Sea and logistical requirements of chartered transport, visitors must coordinate their flights or boat transfers in parallel with cottage confirmation.
Important Conditions of Stay
- Minimum Stay Requirements: Minimum night bookings (usually 2 nights, longer during peak holiday periods) apply.
- Weather Buffer: Guests must always bring at least 1–2 days of additional emergency food rations in case adverse weather delays departure flights or boats.
- Wildlife Etiquette: Little Penguins nest directly underneath the surrounding boardwalks and rocks. Strict red-light rules apply after sundown.
