Evelyn
A fishing ketch that tried to reach shelter at Gabo Island because the Mallacoota bar was too dangerous, lost power and was driven onto the rocks.
The story
The Evelyn was heading from Lakes Entrance to the Mallacoota lakes. Conditions at the Mallacoota bar were hazardous, so she tried to reach shelter at Gabo Island.
The engine failed in high seas and she was driven onto the rocks and sank immediately in deep water, according to a report datelined Eden in The Argus.
Owner and master Peter Neilsen was lost. Carl Sorensen survived.
