Victory
A brigantine that sprang a leak on a ballast run from Warrnambool to Newcastle. The crew of six were taken off by a passing barque.
The story
The Victory was heading from Warrnambool to Newcastle carrying only ballast. She sprang a leak off Cape Everard that gained quickly on the pumps.
All six crew, under Captain John Roddy, were picked up by the barque City of Adelaide (Captain McKay). A Marine Board inquiry in Sydney found no evidence against the master.
Where the records differ:
One secondary list gives 1892 and a Cape Howe or Gabo area location. Heritage Victoria gives 7 November 1893 and says the leak began off Cape Everard, so the exact sinking position is not stated.
