Suffolk
A bark-laden barque that lost her rudder off the Gippsland coast and was abandoned off Cape Howe after a tow failed.
The story
The Suffolk was registered at Melbourne and owned by Robert Rae and Sidney Smith. Heavy seas carried away her rudder. A jury rudder proved inadequate, the tow line from SS Leura parted, and with land approaching and severe weather coming she was abandoned.
