Moana
A motor vessel on a long coastal run that was driven onto Tullaberga Island in 1976. Locals mounted a rescue after seeing flares.
The story
The Moana was a 42 ft steel motor vessel on a voyage from Adelaide to Brisbane. Heritage Victoria says the crew mistook Gabo Light for the Eden light and stayed too close to the rocks.
Residents and fishermen saw flares and a rescue was mounted using a launch crewed by the local postmaster. One crew member was found on Tullaberga Island and the other two were found in a liferaft between Tullaberga and Gabo Islands.
Archive photographs for this wreck are being gathered and will be added here.
