Star of Mallacoota
A ketch built at Mallacoota in 1891 that left for Melbourne in 1893 and was never heard of again.
The story
The Star of Mallacoota was built by George Dorran at Mallacoota and owned by Henry Bucknall of Genoa. The register was closed on 29 November 1893 with the note that she left Genoa on 16 May 1893 and had not been heard of since.
Heritage Victoria gives the cause as presumed foundering at sea.
Where the records differ:
The report quotes a contemporary item saying she was dismasted in a gale on 12 June, which does not fit a loss on 16 May.
Departure is given as Mallacoota in one place and Genoa in another.
Archive photographs for this wreck are being gathered and will be added here.
